If you have hard wood floors and you would rather not use harsh cleaning agents on them, this guide will give you step by step directions on how to use vinegar to clean hardwood floors.

Before just using any type of vinegar on those beautiful floors, you will want to make sure that you have white vinegar; you would not want to stain the wood with a colored alternative.

Step One:

You will want to remove everything from the floor that can be moved easily. That includes things like small tables, rugs, and anything that may just be lying around.

Once you have moved the small objects out of the way, mix your solution of one cup vinegar to one gallon of warm water in a bucket.

Then test the solution on a small, unseen part of the floor. This will ensure that there are no problems such as fading of the color.

Step Two:

You will want to start off this step of the how to use vinegar to clean hardwood floors guide by blocking off the room from pets and small children. Even though vinegar is non toxic, you still would not want them to leave paw or foot prints on your wet floor.

Next, you will need to vacuum or dry mop the floor. This will help clear the dust and dirt and prepare the floor to be mopped.

Now, dip the mop into your cleaning solution and ring it until it is a damp-dry. You do not want to use a soaking mop on a wood floor.

Step Three:

You can now start mopping the floor with your damp-dry mop. Make sure to work front to back so you do not leave your own footprints on the wet floor.

If the water starts to look a little dirty, change the water and vinegar solution.

You will want to also rinse out the mop with clean, running water each time you change the solution to ensure that you are not putting a dirty mop into your new, clean water.

Also, the solution may dry with a bit of a streak, make sure that you mop in the direction of the floorboards so this is not as noticeable.

There you have it, a three step guide on how to use vinegar to clean hardwood floors.

Vinegar is a wonderful product that isn’t only great in salads; there are many different uses for vinegar.
